Charcoal is essentially pure carbon, and it is made by burning wood with very little oxygen. Apple extract contains high concentrations of flavonoids (quercetin, catechin). It is also rich in mallic acid, a type of alpha-hydroxy acid or AHA.

Apple extract helps brighten dull skin and then protect it from oxidative stress. It can exfoliate (malic acid and other AHAs) dead and dull skin cells, allowing younger, brighter looking cells to come on the surface. It also helps protects the skin from free radical damage (flavonoids).

The primary fatty acids found in apricot kernel oil are oleic acid (Omega-9), linoleic acid, and palmitic acid. It also contains Vitamin A, E & K, two skin-identical lipids - Glycolipids and phospholipids and minerals such as copper, magnesium, and potassium.

The molecule has three parts – a derivative of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), the silicium core, and the pectin (water-soluble carbohydrates found in certain plants) derivative.

The principal components extracted from the German chamomile flowers are the terpenoids - a-bisabolol and its oxide azulenes and flavanoids - quercetin, patuletin.

All-star member of our soothing and anti-inflammatory cohort, chamomile extract is a wonderful ingredient to soothe your skin and lighten skin complexion due to the high concentration of azulene. It is also known to have antioxidant properties (flavonoids).

Chaulmoogra oil contains anti-bacterial agents such as hydnocarpic acid. It also has 5-Methoxyhydnocarpin - which helps improve the efficacy of antibacterial agents in the overall product.

The three main active ingredients are eugenol, eugenyl acetate, and caryophyllene. Unused, freshly grounded coffee is a great skincare ingredient. When you exfoliate the skin with coffee powder, several beneficial phytochemicals nutrients, including caffeine, are absorbed by the skin. Recent studies show that the topical use of caffeine can inhibit specific inflammatory skin reactions. It is a tripeptide consisting of glycine, histidine, and lysine, which readily forms a complex with copper ions. Technically known as GHK-Cu, where GHK (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) corresponds to the peptide part.

Studies have shown that copper peptide improves skin firmness and elasticity by accelerating collagen and elastin synthesis and accelerating the shedding of damaged collagen. Increase the production of water-holding glycosaminoglycan, which then keeps the skin naturally moisturized, improves microcirculation in skin's blood vessels. Adding Copper peptide to topical skincare regime can be useful in slowing skin-aging. With age, both the peptide and Copper levels in the body go down. GHK content is highest in the plasma of young, healthy individuals. At age 20, the plasma level of GHK is about 200 ng/mL, and by the age of 60, it declines to 80 ng/mL.

It is part of the "Tripura Sundari," meaning "thrice beautiful" in Indian herbal folk medicine. It is considered the best nervine tonic and rejuvenates all kinds of Vata disorders. It also aids in carbohydrate metabolism and thus releases energy, which helps increase the skin's vitality.

Glycerol/glycerine is a simple polyol compound (alcohol) with three hydroxyls (OH) groups.

We use glycerine primarily as a humectant (a type of moisturizing agent that pulls water into your skin's outer layer from deeper layers of your skin and the outside atmosphere). It is water-soluble and readily compatible with other ingredients and thus also acts as a solubilizer for several different active ingredients in a skincare product.

Also known as Glyceryl Monostearate, it is a monoglyceride - a combination of glycerin and stearic acid (fatty acids). Stearic acid is in turn derived from vegetable oil, soy oil, or palm oil.

It helps slows down the trans-epidermal water loss from the skin by forming a film on the skin's surface and maintains the moisture balance needed for healthy soft, and smooth skin. As an emulsifier, it also keeps an emulsion (cream) stable and effective.

As an amino acid, it is a building block of protein in our body. Also, it is a non-essential amino acid, which means it is naturally synthesized in the body.

Glycine is a vital component of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) and the main building block of dermal structural proteins.

Glycolic acid is an AHA and is naturally found in sugarcane extract.

Glycolic acid is an exfoliant and helps the skin shed off dead skin cells. More importantly, its molecule size is such that it can easily penetrate deeper into the stratum corneum - the topmost layer of skin and thus help skin shed off dead cells even at depth and create space for younger and healthier skin cells. The flower extract is rich in several beneficial phytochemicals. It contains tannins, anthraquinones, phenols, flavonoids (gossypetin, quercetin), alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, free amino acids, and essential oils. Other biochemical constituents include L-ascorbic acid, anthocyanin, polysaccharides.

Hibiscus helps increase skin’s elasticity because of its ability to prevent the breaking down of the skin’s elastin (cells/tissues that make skin elastic). Further, antioxidants called anthocyanosides to protect the skin from environmental stressors and help shrink enlarged pores. Hibiscus extract has been shown to function as an anti-UV agent as well.

It is 98 - 99% halite (the mineral name for common salt). It is pink in color because of a high concentration of iron and magnesium. It contains other useful minerals and elements such as Iodine, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Zinc.

We have used Himalayan Pink Salt as a physical scrubbing agent because, in addition to exfoliating and massaging your skin, it also supplies essential trace elements to the skin. Further, being natural and sustainably mined, it doesn’t harm the environment, unlike plastic beads that are otherwise commonly used in scrubs.

Face Scrub

Hops extract contains humulone, lupulone, chalcone xanthohumol (CXH), myrcene, humulene, caryophyllene, and some flavonoids.

We use hops extract for chalcone xanthohumol (CXH). Studies have shown that CXH can stop the pigmentation process through multiple pathways. It blocks the growth of melanocytes (the cells where the pigmentation, melanin is formed). It also promotes cell turnover – shedding off the outermost layer of dead and darkened skin cells and revealing younger un-pigmented cells.

Radiance face oil

Hyaluronic acid, also called hyaluronan, is an anionic, non-sulfated glycosaminoglycan (polysaccharide). There are several variants of HA available in the market today. We are using a vegan super active HA produced by a patent enzymatic degradation technology and it has very small molecule weight (less than 5kDA).

We have used this particular source of HA for two reasons. First, it is a vegan HA that is made by fermentation of glucose using yeast extract. Second, this particular variant of HA has very low molecular weight which means it can penetrate quicker and deeper into the skin to make sure moisture is available even in the deeper layers of skin where wrinkles actually originate. We have added HA in all our water based or emulsion based formulations because we feel HA is not a luxury but a necessity for everyone, irrespective of skin type and skin concern.

It is produced by controlled hydrogenation of corn syrup, and chemically it is a polysaccharide carbohydrate.

Polysaccharides are naturally found in the skin and play an important role as one of the skin's water reservoirs. HSH is a plant-derived polysaccharide. As a result, it is readily accepted by the skin and then helps increase the availability of moisture in the skin and prevent dryness.

Night Repair Cream, Bio-Retinol Cream, Hand & Neck Cream

Chemically it is a derivative of renewable polysaccharide derived from cellulose (wood).

Instead of using non-biodegradable synthetic acrylic polymers that harm both the skin and the environment we have used HEC. As an added advantage, it helps reduce trans epidermal water loss by strengthening the skin’s barrier and gives a good sensorial effect to the product.

AHA Face Wash, AHA Body Wash

HPPA is a beta carboxylic acid.

It reduces dark spots and discoloration more effectively but without cytotoxicity that comes with other skin lightening agents such as hydroquinone. Reason enough to be part of the anti-pigmentation cohort at Aminu.

Correcting Concentrate

It is a pre-gelatinized sugar and belongs to the family of carbohydrates.

It makes natural emulsions (creams) viscous at any temperature, provides superior conditioning to the skin, and enhances the non-greasy after-feel.

AHA Face Wash

This herb contains resveratrol in abundance. Apart from that, the roots and leaves of knotweed contain flavonoids, anthraquinones, coumarins, essential oils, and organic acids.

We use it for the high resveratrol content that makes it a key member of our soothing cohort. It also shows high antioxidant activity (flavonoids) that protect the skin from environmental damage. It soothes the skin and can lessen the appearance of occasional redness.

Hydrating Cream, Soothing Cream

Jasmine flower and leaf extract contains alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, essential oil and saponins.

We use jasmine essential oil (also known as King of Oils) in some of our preparations for its power anti-septic and anti-oxidant properties and pleasing aroma. At few other places we have used jasmine floral water (hydrosol) as base instead of plain water to lend the product more anti-bacterial properties.

The major components of Angelica root extract are decursin & its isomer.

Researchers have indicated that angelica's root extracts can help in fading dark spots (tyrosinase inhibition, melanin inhibition) and slow down skin-aging (free-radical scavenging).

Clarifying Concentrate

It contains citronella and limonene, which give the essential oil a robust citrusy fragrance and antioxidant properties. Other major components are D-limonene, a-pinene, myrcene, terpinolene (essential oils).

The essential oil extracted from the peel of kaffir lime has potent antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties and lends a natural uplifting citrusy note to the product. It neutralizes the dangerous by-products of cellular respiration that can cause cell mutation or apoptosis. Its antioxidant compounds can also slow the breakdown of cells and lessen the appearance of age marks, scars, and pimples.

Melting Balm Cleanser

It is a superstore of Vitamin C (A & E as well), poly-phenols, palmitic acid (omega-6), linoleic acid, monounsaturated oleic acid, stearic acid, and minerals such as Copper, Zinc, and Magnesium.

Oxidative stress triggers inflammation in the skin, leading to breakouts. Vitamin C (of which Kakadu plum is the highest natural source!!) reduces oxidative stress and stimulates collagen production, which are both vital for youthful skin. Not only is Kakadu plum a supplier of natural Vitamin C, but it also improves the distribution of Vitamin C across different layers of skin by re-activating the internal Vitamin C transport mechanism, which tends to become dormant due to sun exposure.

Lactic acid is an organic acid biosynthesized as an intermediate step of sugar metabolism in the body. Lactic acid is a type of an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA).

We use lactic acid (a type of AHA) for its exfoliation prowess, which helps in spot reduction, increasing cell turnover rate (helps improve glow), pore size reduction. Research has shown that lactic acid also strengthens the skin's NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) - naturally found components in the skin that help it stay moisturized.

Overnight Facial Peel

Lavender essential oil contains several beneficial phyto-chemicals - polyphenols such as rosmarinic acid, flavonoids such as apigenin, linalool and linalyl acetate.

We use lavender essential oil derived from hand harvested lavender flowers grown in Bulgaria. It lends potent anti-microbial and soothing properties to the formula in addition to strengthening skin barrier and calming the senses via aroma therapy.

Lemon contains ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), citric acid (AHA- exfoliant), flavonoids, glutathione, alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E), terpenes, and minerals.

We use the lemon extract for its rich concentration of citric acid (a type of AHA) that exfoliates dead skin and ascorbic acid that triggers the synthesis of collagen, which helps prevent sagging, dullness and makes the brighter and younger-looking. It protects the skin from oxidative damage in the dermis, improves barrier function, and shields the skin from UV rays.

Clarifying Concentrate, AHA Power Peel, AHA Face Wash, AHA Body Wash

The primary chemical constituents of lemongrass essential oil are geranial and neral, and myrcene. Other components include citral, citronellal, geranyl acetate, nerol, geraniol, and limonene.

First, lemongrass is an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agent, and when used on the skin, it can help prevent acne, pimples, and rashes. Second, it also works as an anti-inflammatory agent and helps soothe irritated skin and calm redness. Third, it is also an excellent astringent and helps reduce the appearance of pores. These three properties make it a potent ingredient to fight acne breakouts and post-acne scarring.

From a skincare perspective, licorice extract contains two very important phytochemicals - glabridin and liquiritin. In addition to that the root extract also contains sugars, starch, resins, essential oils, tannins and low concentration of individual amino acids.

Licorice owes its popularity as a skin care ingredient to a phyto-chemical called glabridin which has shown skin lightening effects and liquiritin which helps to disperse and remove melanin and pigments in the skin. We use licorice extract rich in these two phytochemicals in our brightening formulas.

It contains important fatty acids such as a-linolenic acid, palmitic acid (omega 9), stearic acid, and linoleic acid.

It acts as an emollient, softening the skin. It has also been shown to protect the skin's surface against water loss and shore up its protective barrier (fatty acids).

Lotus leaf is a rich source of multiple bioactive components such as alkaloids, tannins, and flavonoids.

Part of our anti-acne cohort, lotus leaf extract helps regulate sebum production in oily skin, prevent clogged pores, and remove excess oil from pores without drying out the skin. These activities make lotus leaf a potent ingredient for acne prevention.

It is a rich source of plant squalene, tocotrienols, and fatty acids such as palmitic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid.

Mace oil contains a high concentration of organic acid such as acetic acid, formic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid. It also has monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes.

The extract from the bark of the Magnolia plant contains high concentration of magnolol and honokiol, which are said to be up to 1000x more potent antioxidants than vitamin E. These two compounds are also highly effective anti-inflammatory agents.

We use magnolia hydrosol obtained during steam distillation of magnolia bark as the base in several products as it increases the products' anti-oxidant and anti- inflammatory potency multi-folds and also helps improve skin barrier function and may even shield skin from UV rays.

Clarifying Concentrate, Skin Perfecting Serum, Regenerating Serum

It is a rich source of trace elements such as zinc, copper, selenium, and manganese (minerals).

The malachite extract is indeed magical for the skin. It helps prevent skin pigment by blocking the production of melanin. The high concentration of copper helps increase collagen and elastin production in the skin, giving it a tighter look. Next, the selenium helps delay aging by combating free-radicals in the skin, keeping it hydrated and eczema-free (because of high mineral content). The neem tree in Indian is often referred to as the "village pharmacy." We have used a proprietary maceration technique to extract all the goodness of neem leaves and added it to all oil and emulsion (cream) based products.

Niacinamide is also called nicotinamide. It is a form of vitamin B3, an essential nutrient for the body's regular functioning.

Squalene is a hydrocarbon molecule that is both naturally occurring and commercially synthesized from vegetable and other sources.

Squalene is a light weight oil-rebalancer and hydrator and easily penetrates in the skin and thus helps to restore the lipid barrier, tones, regenerates & restructures skin.

Other than Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), the extract contains flavonoids such as catechin, alpha-hydroxy acids such as citric and malic acid, and terpenes a-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, limonene, linalool, citronellal, neral, and geranial.

Various parts of the rose plant are rich in Vitamin B, C & K, Carotene, and phenolic acids, such as gallic, ellagic, quinine. It also contains terpenes, flavonoids, and its derivative and glycosides.
